Statement of Aims
I have chose to do the print product to go alongside with my audio-visual television sequence. For this, I created a poster and DVD cover as a way of promoting my television series. I have chose the style and layout appropriately to fit the brief requirements for this. The requirements included for me to create the poster and DVD covers directed towards 16-25 year olds who will watch the television series. I have decided to go for a crime genre for my television sequence as it appeals to the target audience and I have implemented genre related aspects in my poster and DVD cover. During my research for the production, I learnt that the desired age group was interested in crime shows the most.
I chose a navy blue background for the poster as well as for the DVD cover to connote the dark theme that surrounds my programme. I decided not to go for black since I believe that it wouldn't stand out compared to a dark blue colour that implies the tones of midnight which fits in well with my crime genre. To go along with the background I chose white text with shadows to make the covers stand out. Dark blue and white are the only colours that I have used and I purposely did this because I wanted my poster and DVD cover to be basic yet stylish. The poster gave the top-down effect where it would capture the scene of the characters in the programme and I thought it would really stand out and took inspiration to the designs of crime posters for movies.
My DVD front cover design is basic showing only the title and photo of the victim character. Going for a detailed front cover would not give the audience enough time to glaze at it and decide whether it stands out to them however with my cover, the simple design of the slanted title and victim laying on the floor already makes the audience already know what the programme will be about and it will intrigue them to watch it to find out why the victim is laying there and those who are interested in the crime genre are likely to be fascinated.
I have included other details such as the DVD symbols which I noted from DVD covers online. I made sure to include the BBFC age rating as a priority to address the target audience age as well as any content which should be outlined by the BBFC. For the back cover, the synopsis is briefly written to not give too much detail about the programme so it allows for the audience to watch it in order to find out more and not already give out too much information about the programme to make it less suspenseful. With all the elements included, I hope that my designs for the poster and DVD cover will get across to the desired target audience.
